Croco-embossed finished leather
Finished leather with a crocodile-scale pattern heat-pressed into the grain: the relief and sheen of croco, with the consistency of a finished hide.
We carry it in a wide range of colours, from beiges and taupes to yellows and ochres, pinks, reds and dark tones. See real examples in the portfolio.

Floater (milled grain)
Finished leather with a milled grain: the hide's natural grain is loosened and accentuated by tumbling in the drum, giving a soft handle and a characteristic irregular relief.
For footwear, sneakers and leather goods. A wide colour card: whites and creams, yellows, browns and cognacs, orange, red, burgundy, green, blues and greys. Ask us for samples.

05Aniline leather

Aniline leather
Leather dyed right through with aniline dyes and no covering pigment: the natural grain stays visible, with a soft handle and a rich colour that gains character with use.
We dye to order: any colour from the RAL chart. Give us the reference and request your sample.

Crazy horse
Waxed leather with a pull-up effect: the colour lightens where the leather is bent or scratched and develops a unique patina with use, for a rugged, vintage look.

Our product lines: croco-embossed finished hides, photographed one by one in the warehouse, each with its own lot number, and our automotive, leather-goods, floater, aniline and crazy horse samples (aniline in any RAL colour). Pick the lot or samples you are interested in and ask us about them.

Leather glossary
The terms we use every day with tanneries and manufacturers.
- Raw hide
- An untanned hide, preserved fresh or salted. In Portuguese: couro em verde.
- Wet-blue
- A chrome-tanned hide, still wet and blue-grey in colour. The most common form in which semi-finished leather is traded internationally.
- Crust
- A hide that has been retanned, dyed and dried, but not yet surface-finished.
- Finished leather
- Leather with its final finish (colour, gloss, handle or embossing), ready to cut.
- Embossing
- A pattern pressed into the grain under heat and pressure, such as croco.
- Grain
- The outer face of the hide, where the texture and finish show.
- Selection
- Grading of a hide by the quality of its grain and the number of defects: 1st, 2nd, 3rd…
- Crazy horse
- Waxed leather with a pull-up effect: the colour lightens where the leather is bent or scratched.
- Aniline
- Leather dyed right through with soluble dyes and no covering pigment, so the natural grain shows.
- Floater
- Finished leather whose grain is loosened and accentuated by tumbling in the drum, with a soft handle and irregular relief. In Portuguese: pele batida.
- Automotive leather
- Finished leather for car upholstery and interiors, with its own requirements for light fastness, wear and heat resistance.
- Thickness
- Measured in millimetres; it decides the use, from garments to footwear and leather goods.

A leather house in Alcanena
Formula Emblematic, Lda was founded in 2014 and works with leather at every stage: raw hides, wet-blue and crust, and finished leather such as our croco-embossed range.
We are based in Vila Moreira, Alcanena, the historic heart of Portugal's tanning industry. From here we buy and sell leather for tanneries and footwear, leather-goods and apparel makers, in Portugal and abroad.
